Could not find answer in Search. I’m asking this in hopes someone else has actual knowledge of the matter, before I take the advice of the “take it apart and see crowd”. When you remove the OEM hand guards to use Barkbusters you remove the forward facing bracket that attached to the OEM handguard and the base of the mirror stem.  That bracket also serves as a spacer or stem cover of sorts. In removing the OEM handguard does that leave an exposed bolt stem that the base of the mirror attaches to? If so, can you purchase a spacer or longer stem cover?

I believe the "Stem" that goes through the handguard can be tightened down to the switchgear without the handguard in place. That is the way it was on my wife's G650GS which came without handguards and I installed the OEM handguards on. In other words the mirror stems are the same with our without handguards.

Thanks. I suppose I should just suck it up and take it apart. But after reading more SW Motech info I will send the 40mm extensions back and get the 66mm since their catalog says they are especially for BMW to allow offset without covering the controls. These ones are a “boomerang” shape as opposed to single linear extension.

Perhaps. While a picture is worth a thousand words, words can be helpful too. So let me ask. Between the base that is attached to the handlebars with the clutch handle and the rubber cover on the mirror stem that appears to be covering stem and nuts, there appears to be a black spacer. Is this spacer under the OEM extention that connects to the OEM hand guard cup? Or is this part something you buy separately or that comes with after-market hand guards?

That is sort of a flange that the OEM handguard mount sits on. It's molded into the clutch and front brake perches and is not removable.

Ok, thanks. It must be inside of the bracket that attaches to the OEM hand guard cup.
