Just ordered a 40th Anniversary 850GS to prep and then take to South America for three months next autumn (hopefully!). Colombia to Patagonia.
Last big trip like this was London-Beijing on a Rally Raid Honda CB500X. Decided that whilst the CB was bullet-proof in terms of build and reliability, it was a little bit too lacking on the power front. Thought about taking my 1200GS to South America but am getting too old for the weight and anyway it cost less to trade it for the 850 than it would have done to replace/upgrade the 25,000 mile suspension on the 1200.
850 due for Christmas so now am planning my farkle list...
