Factory Navigator Mount Wiring Query
« on: October 16, 2020, 02:44:05 AM »
G'day all,

I have just purchased a 2019 850GS with the factory Navigator cradle fitted. I have a Zumo XT and want to wire that up for power instead, using the factory connector under the dash. I have no use for the Navigator mount so plan to cut the wires and use that male connector. It has three wires coming off it, red, black and purple. I am at a loss trying to find a wiring diagram, and it seems pretty obvious, but can anyone confirm for me that the red is the positive, black is earth, and purple is for data or something? The Zumo wiring just has positive and negative so I'll just cover the purple if I don't need it. Picture attached to help explain in case the above is confusing!

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks all,

Tom

Can you disconnect plug and check pins with a multimeter?
Brown is always ground on BMW.
Red Positive.
Green/Purple data

Thanks for that. I'd be pretty suprised if the red was anything other than positive, and black the negative, but don't want to blow the GPS! Multimeter is likely the best bet, might give that a crack tomorrow. Thanks.

Thanks Tomcat. I had seen that thread and had a look through, but all the info seems to be for the Nippy Norman's plug. Couldn't see on the photos what each wire was labelled with to differentiate them!

All the info is there. Wire 1 red is +ve. Wire 2 is not used. Wire 3 black is -ve.
The 19 accessory plug from either BMW or Normans saves chopping into the BMW harness.
If it aint broke, keep fixing it until it is!

Thanks mate, helpful info. I would buy the Nippy plug if I were in Europe, it's just not worth it to ship here to Aus. Is the BMW connector the same thing? Do you know of a part number for that at all? Thanks again.

The BMW item is identical and costs just a few pounds more. Used across a wide range of BMW bikes, it is commonly stocked accessory.
Edit. If that photo is of your bike, you have the BMW accessory lead plugged in already. Follow the route of the wires that extend from the white plug and nip them off at the other end.
Before you cut any wires, wait for about ten minutes after the ignition key is removed, as the bike continues to power the accessory port for a few minutes following ignition shut down.

Brilliant, found it. BMW part number is 83300413585 in case anyone comes upon this.

Thanks for all your help Tomcat, didn't realise the connector was so widespread!
