Chain tensioning in F850GS
« on: May 23, 2020, 06:01:54 PM »
Today I pulled the chain on the motorcycle.

The operation is very simple and described in the user manual, but I thought that I would write briefly how to do it, because maybe there is someone who has never done it before.

A 34 mm socket wrench will be needed. In addition, it is good to have a torque wrench.

1. Unscrew the axle nut.
2. Use the adjustment screws on the left and right to pull up the chain. It's best to screw in the screws 1/4 turn and check the chain. If it is still loose, tighten the adjusting screws 1/4 turn again.
3. Look at the markings on the left and right to check the wheel alignment. You can also use a laser tool to check the correctness of this setting.
4. The chain should have 30-40 mm slack, with the motorcycle on the side stand.
5. Tighten the axle nut with 100 Nm (preferably with a torque wrench).

Because the motorcycle is a German production, you can listen the Rammstein during the service  :016:

Only problem with listening to Rammstein is you will over torque it.

Never tried with any tools, i've always eye-balled it. That profi tool seems interesting.

I was listening to metal today while ripping out chunks of my yard.

You're right. It's need to be very careful while listening to this song   :152:
