Delay in obtaining bits
« on: January 06, 2020, 06:21:14 PM »
Is anyone having trouble getting hold of parts for the F850GS from BMW?
My bike is currently with insurance company being repaired after an off I had last September.
The Insurance company have notified me weekly on progress but the holdup is a left side engine cover and exhaust can parts.
Since beginning of December I was given a date of 08/01/2020 for these bits but today I received a further email that BMW have knocked the release date for the bits to 08/02 now.
Has anyone else had a problem?

I have not.  I would however be asking for a "buy back" or other such remedy if manufacture can't provide replacement parts within a reasonable time...say 60 days. I know no answer can correct your problem, but waiting a year for replacement parts makes no sense whatsoever. Sorry for your "pain".

Just to look I went online to one of the dealers here in the US and at least for the left side engine cover they were quoting 7-10 days for part to ship in.

Hi

I had my left hand cover replaced in November due to the paint comming off, from reporting to fitting was about 3 weeks! Assume you mean the silver alternator cover?

I would check the insurance company are not playing around here!!!!

I have been in email contact with Insurance again today to which they have replied that they are in daily contact with BMW about these bits, but BMW are not being helpful. All other bits were delivered in November.

What is rationale behind having an insurance carrier running point instead of an authorized BMW dealership?  Seems any leverage with a parts source would be concentrated more at manufacture/retail level, than a third party claims adjudicator.

I'm still waiting for a new radiator after mine failed (warranty applied), at first I was notified of 25-30 days waiting time. It's been over 100 days now and I'm still waiting. Dealership has no answer other than "we have to wait, still no news from factory", I know that there's at least 4 bikes here in my city in my same situation.
