First long trip on the TWAT

10 year rider, but first ADV bike. Picked it up late last year and did a few weekend trips on some gravel roads. Next month will be my first week long trip with this bike and on the Trans-Wisconsin Adventure Trail. This route seems well-traveled and a great way to get my feet wet on ADV riding before I try the TAT or head up North to Alaska next year. My only concern is that because I have always been a pavement dweller for my routes I always just relied on Google Maps and downloaded the areas I need. I have used Butler maps in the past as well. The cost of a GPS unit is just a bit hard to swallow right now as I'm novice for ADV and don't know if it is something I'll continue to pursue. I have found that downloading a copy of the TWAT route seems to work just fine in the BMW Connect App navigation feature, so that is my plan for now.
Anyone use this app for their navigation and have some pros vs cons when compared to an actual navigation unit?
Also anyone else ride the TWAT before? Any suggestions on campgrounds along the way? I have an idea of some along the route but always interested in suggestions from those that have prior experience.

Just returned from our trip up the TWAT and did about 60% of it back down home. It was challenging in the sand but the technical stuff in the ATV trails was a lot of fun. We saw no one on the way up, took about 3 days. On the way back down we saw a group of 5 or 6 riders.

Thumbs up. Did you perhaps do a full ride report?
