I used a flathead to get between the layers and spread the pin part from the retainer part.

But awesome that you don't need them after the install...like the so many torx bolts that are piling up after adding after-market stuff

I've now installed the Outback Motortek crash bars.

The left side lower crash bar that attaches next to the kickstand, the bolt holes just would not align no matter how many times I tried.
I had to enlarge the bolt hole. Took me 10-15 minutes to remove enough material off the crash bar to make the bolt fit through.

I had the same misalignment problem. Had to enlargen that hole with a bit of 'elbow grease'. But they do a good job protecting the bike. One grip I have is that auxiliary lights aren't 'safely' mountable. I bought Givi inserts that screw into the steering column to allow for aux lights under the beak.

I found new expanding rivets for the "slipstream deflector" locally.  0.60/each
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0B09-EUR---K81-BMW-F%20850%20GS%20(0B09,%200B19)&diagId=46_2047

Now that I gave the GSA adjustable windscreen holder a closer look, I think I can fit the deflector in there using these expanding rivets.
The deflector will cover the four torx bolts just as before with the standard holder. I stand corrected, scratch what I said before :)

I installed the Outback Motortek pannier racks and Lone Rider Motobags this weekend. Mods for 2021 finished. :)
