I have a Ram claw and suction cup which gives me all the angles I need for my Sony Action cam.
I made a little bracket thingy from a bit of aluminum strip to put the cam on my helmet, but I don't really like that angle as I tend to look down, screwing up the 'far-forward' view of the camera.
(not sure what goes wrong there as I can see far forward, but the camera ends up filming the dash and not much else...)
Anyway, the camera sits well on the crashbars, if you're scared of scratching the camera when you fall, just stick it on the inside or in front of the bars so it doesn't touch the ground first.
Use the ram joints to your advantage...
You can also use a suction cup on the plastics in that area for a less sticky-out camera position, but tether the thing with a wire or something to something (eg, crashbar).
And, with the ram claw you can just stick it next to a mirror on the handle cars and angle it so that it's further left or right to avoid the windshield (or film yourself).
